Fried Bananas with Brown Sugar Sauce


It's healthy right?



Isn’t it great when you take something healthy and make it unhealthy? For example: bananas. I’m not a nutrition expert, but I know bananas are high in potassium and generally speaking, great for the body. Now let’s add some things that are good for the soul. I’m talking brown sugar, butter, cinnamon…you get the picture.

Fried Honey & Cinnamon Banana W/ Brown Sugar Sauce


Ingredients

1 Banana – cut into half inch slices
1 Tablespoon Butter
2 Tablespoons Honey
1 Tablespoon Maple Syrup
2 Tablespoon Cinnamon
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
¼ Teaspoon Thyme Leaves

Brown Sugar Sauce
1 Tablespoon All Purpose Flour
¼ cup Brown Sugar
1 Tablespoon Butter
½ cup Boiling Water
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
Pinch of Salt

Directions

1.     Sprinkle sliced banana with cinnamon.
2.     In a medium sauté pan, heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
3.     Add the bananas and sauté for 6 minutes per side.
4.     In the meantime, in a small bowl, combine the honey and maple syrup with a 1/8 cup of water (cold).
5.     After the bananas are browned on both sides, remove from the heat and add the honey/syrup mix to the pan. Set aside.
6.     In a small saucepan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
7.     Whisk in the flour for 2 minutes.
8.     Stir in the brown sugar and let cook for 2-3 minutes. Be sure to whisk constantly to prevent sticking and burning.
9.     Add in the boiling water, vanilla and salt, stirring constantly until the sauce is smooth.
10. Remove from the heat.

11. Plate the bananas and pour the sauce over the bananas. Sprinkle with thyme leaves.
